I finished the trim work around the entryway door this past weekend. I decided instead of painting it white, to paint it the same blue grey color I used on the kitchen cabinets and the interior doors I destressed. I think it gave the entry such a dramatic effect.

The kitchen is now 90% done. I’m missing my island countertops because they just weren’t in the budget yet with everything else going on around the house.  The kitchen use to be a back-of-the-house living room/den right off the old kitchen. We enlarged the pass through to connect the new dining room to the new…

Dining Room

Another room is mostly complete ( I’m missing a few decor items, but I do have the rest of my life for those purchases). This is my most drastic room update since the entire purpose changed. The fireplace in this room is my baby. When we originally found the fireplace behind the wall covering, I…

Outside Projects

Moved some work outside. My 30th birthday is coming up and my plans are to have an outside dinner. So in an effort to clean up some of the landscaping, I decided to add a patio and walkway around the screened in porch. I want to try and keep everything fitting for the house and…

Little Improvements

I haven’t posted anything in awhile because not one room is complete. I moved in December 18th and while work is slowly happening around the first floor, no major projects have happened. Oh except more plumbing! I had to have my old sewer line replaced (it looked like Swiss cheese). So since December, trim work…

The Lighting

I am in love with my lighting choices. I used a couple different places to find all these fixtures. I wanted something unique in every room; there is nothing builder grade about any of these. Most all of these fixtures are very reasonably priced too. Each room was wired for ceiling fans in case I…

The laminate flooring has been installed downstairs. It’s a 12mm pergo in heathered oak. It’s actually more grey than what it looks like in photographs. It makes all the difference and while I can still feel the imperfections in the leveling of my floors, I love it. It’s an old home and nothing will be…

Trimming Out

The trim has gone up and I really think it’s what has pulled this house together. I’m in love with the windows, the crown molding, and my baseboards.

Let There Be Light

Almost a year later, the lights are back on. I felt very primitive like I’d never seen electricity before. It was such a good feeling to see the house lit up!

Dry Brushing

My doors had layers of paint on them. So I stripped them, not exactly sure of what my goals were. I liked the halfway stripped look and started to embrace the idea of not having a solid painted door. The problem was, not one door looked remotely the same. They had different color paints, stains,…

The (Almost) Complete First Floor Bathroom Remodel

Work is coming along on the downstairs bath. Floor is in, shower is getting tile, I’ve got my light, mirror, sink, toilet paper holder, etc. This has been a big focus. There has not been a working bathroom in the house since I bought the place.

Primed Walls & Ceilings

The walls and ceilings are primed downstairs. The tongue and groove ceilings will need a little extra work to fill in some rough spots. We are almost ready for paint. There is a lot of trim work still to be done. After all that, probably the downstairs bathroom will be next.  Floors are coming last….
